This felt carrot represents the beginning of a journey. It was the first thing I created with felt and my first real experience of hand-stitching. I was six months into my marriage, five months pregnant with my first child, one month into a pandemic, weeks into working from home, and I was antsy. I had a strong desire to create, and it felt like the clock was ticking on the amount of time left I had to do it. I wish I could remember what first brought me to felt or why I chose a carrot, but I do know it opened the door to a whole world I didn’t know I was missing. My yearning to work with my hands was finally found in sewing by hand.
Amidst chaos and uncertainty, I found solace in crafting. The soft texture of felt and the rhythmic motion of the needle and thread provided a calming effect that I needed during those turbulent times. Crafting became my creative outlet, allowing me to channel my energy into something positive and express myself in a unique way.
I am grateful for this little guy who has been a useful pincushion for me over the last few years. Every time I reach for a pin, it reminds me of the journey that began with this felt carrot. I am still learning and exploring the world of crafting, and I invite you to join me in this process. Together, we can discover the beauty of working with our hands, even during the most challenging times.
Creativity has a way of bringing light into the darkness, and I hope that my journey with this felt carrot inspires you to find your own creative path, no matter the circumstances. Stay tuned for more crafting adventures, and let’s continue to create, learn, and grow together.
